You learn a little more about Linux and write a script and throw
it into the appropriate /etc/cron.whatever directory.  Or manually
put it into the crontab.

You wouldn't.  It is something that people would not want to do that
often.

What would you like to see as documentation?  You say it is "very, 
very much less than adequate", what would you like to see?  How big
of a manual is too big?
