[cobalt-users] Cobalt Archives

Hello,

This post simply points out some *HELPFUL* additions that *MIGHT* be added
to enhance it's ultimate purpose...

>> so additional clarification may be necessary..
>
>That's when you post, "I was getting x error message. I searched the
>archives and found A, B & C."

Hum... correct... as I stated: -"so additional clarification may be
necessary".

>No matter what. The first stop should have been www.cobalt.com as a matter
>of common sense, where you easily find links to
>http://list.cobalt.com/mailman/listinfo/cobalt-users/ and the search tools.

Please, let's not evoke "common sense" in this discussion -I still have
unresolved issues with Cobalt's original 6 hour post of security patch 2.2
that TOTALLY screwed my system.. I truly think taking the time to thoroughly
test a patch before releasing it to the Cobalt general public would be good
"common sense"... regardless of the circumstances... but again this topic is
regarding the "user list"....

So... if a person subscribes to this list and later needs information on how
to change their "list" settings (digest mode vs. reg mode) or if they
want/need information on how to "unsubscribe" from the list, or if they need
to know how to search (look for) the list archives.. -first they should go
to Cobalt's web site and try to find a link back to the user group..?
Uhhhh...? Even if they did.... By accessing the Cobalt web site and
following the links:

SUPPORT >> BROWSE RESOURCES >> USER GROUPS >> COBALT USER GROUP

-It only leads one back to the SAME LINK continued at the top of EVERY
MESSAGE sent via this list.. I think you've missed the point of my post..

>How did the subscribe in the first place?

Probably by following the link at Cobalt's web site (maybe, maybe not..)..
Again.. that's not the point of my post.. The POINT being - Maybe some
additional info can be put in the headers to make clear[er] these options so
there's less confusion and all options are clearly stated (esp. for new
users)... Obviously there's a problem if people find it hard to get off the
list and ask the same questions over and over day after day... Think about
it!!

>What happened to the email they
>received that gave all the instructions and a user name and password?
>Even a search of Infoseek for Cobalt|Server|FAQ finds
>http://www1.simplenet.com/support/faqs/faq-raq.html with many basic
>questions answered.

Personally I saved mine.. That's now I managed to navigate most of these
issues without asking for additional help regarding the use of the
list.... --BUT-- not everyone saves (archives) every piece of email they
receive, no matter how important it is....

What's wrong with posting some addition information in either the headers of
the list or on the web page itself that clarifies the point's raised..? Do
you *honestly* think it wouldn't help users..? And isn't that what this
list is all about to begin with..? Or an *I* the one missing the point...?
