I installed a small stats log last night.. WebLog http://awsd.com/scripts/
It ran on the first shot.. it's not a server based but per site based..
It generated a nice round of reports..
http://www.beautytech.com/reports/log.html
What I need to do is get a clearer understanding of how/when/why the logs
are rotated.
When I went in last night to look at the location and names of the log
files, my own web.log was 0 bytes and there was a large 3MB?? gz file. All
logs were dated 2/25 4.xxAM
I had to tell the script to analyze the gz file to get any output..
When I went in this AM the gz was renamed (??? I think the file is larger
this AM than last night) to web.log.1 and all other log files were dated
2/27 4.xxam Changed the name of the file to analyze to simply web.log and
bingo I did get a report for the 24 hr periods 2/26 4a - 2/27 4am
OK so the cron kicks in at 4 AM I got that :) But can someone give me a tad
bit of in-site as to when these logs are rotated?? I think I'm going to set
the cron for weekly to the web.log at 3 AM, but that may not give me what
I'm looking for... I really have to clear my brain and read RTFM again :)
