Re: [cobalt-users] Majordomo

At 12:04 PM 2/23/00 +0000, you wrote:

I'm wondering if the installed majordomo in a Raq2 is up to running a
'proper' list.

I gave up on it and reinstalled majordomo into "/usr/local/majord".

I've agreed as a favour to host the football (soccer) mailing
list I'm on, as esosoft stopped doing lists and passed everything over to
topica.com which is a nightmare, the other day we were 'treated' to
attachments of over 100kb.

They'll quickly lose all their list business at that rate. Hotmail only gives out 2mb accounts. So twenty posts would fill a hotmail account to overflowing. Ouch.

I have attempted to install a new majordomo, and
have played with virtusertable, sendmail.cf and created a seperate majordomo
aliases file,

Did you add a line to /etc/sendmail.cf to recognize the new aliases file?

but sending a mail to the majordomo at the domain I thought I
set up to, results in a mail from the default majordomo.

There's a few reasons this could be happening. For example, did you create a new copy of wrapper? This is the way we do it. However, it's NOT trivial.

 I have restarted,
cursed and given up several times, and am now wondering if the raq's default
majordomo could do a secure and decent job, or if I'm missed something
stupid.

As I've said, we could never get the RaQ's majordomo to do the job well, and when I asked Cobalt tech support, they gentlemen who took the call told me that Majordomo on the RaQ was only there to set up lists from the GUI, which I didn't feel gave me enough options in terms of archiving, digesting, etc.
