appletalk is compiled into the linux kernel by default
i've got ssh2 installed, i'd offer my help but not until i solve two issues:
1. i set it for ssh1 compatibility but it doesn't work right
2. i'm clueless as to how to get sshd to start with the machine. never
been good at init stuff.

All we see in /var/log/messages is a whole bunch of these messages and
pretty well nothing else. Not sure why we are seeing Appletalk ?
