[cobalt-users] RaQ1: What can they do?

I purchased a RaQ1 about a year ago, just before the RaQ2 became
available. I'm sure I've already voided any warranty this box had so I
want to take it a step farther and try and make this thing useful. I
notice that almost all the RaQ1 questions posted on this list go
ignored, so if there are ANY RaQ Classic(tm) owners out there, at least
make some contact so I know I'm not alone :) Maybe we can set up our own
discussion board to help us get back into the mainstream :)
My question: What are you running on your Raq1 (classic) that Cobalt
never intended?
I for one would like to run a newer kernel, upgrade apache, add mysql
and php, shadow passwords, ssl, ssh, and a few others. What works and
what should I watch out for.
I would consider the destructive upgrade but I'm too cheap to purchase
the CD from Cobalt. I would rather just do this myself and if it means
ditching the GUI, then so be it. It's riddled with security flaws
anyway.
My concerns are not really based on my Linux abilities, but rather the
MIPS platform. Plus I'm always a little bit more apprehensive when I
don't physically have access to the box. It's always nice to reach over
and smack the sucker every once in awhile :)
Thanks,
Erik
