Yes I have exactly the same problem. Your diagnostic is correct, I came to

   I have redirected ( with MX records ) all e-mail from one of our virtual
domains into an outside domain.

   When I send e-mail to this domain, using an external pop server it works
and e-mail goes to right place, but if I use our POP server, then   we have
lots of problems...

   An example:

   This is what I want:

* mail to "clientdomain.com" to "anotherdomain.com"

   This is what I have:

* mail to "clientdomain.com"
from "externaldomain.com" goes to "anotherdomain.com"  (RIGHT)

* mail to "clientdomain.com"
from "internaldomain.com" goes to "anotherINTERNALdomain.com"  (WRONG)

I think sendmail (?) sees the domain as an internal domain, and then sends
the e-mail to the internal user, who can be a user from a different domain.
