Debbie,

If you reboot your box and want to know when it's back up "ping" it.

Open a DOS command window
Windows 9x:   Start; Run; command
NT                     Start; Run; cmd
Mac:                 ???? Must be an app you can run ????

ping yoursitename.com
where yoursitename.com is your domain name
    or
ping 123.456.123.456
where  123.456.123.456 is your IP address of your box

Should take no more than 5 minutes, probably less.
Ping will respond before www is up and running.
