Hi,

I am just starting up a new box, so I thought I'd test out PHP/MySQL converting
from the old RPMs to the newer RPMs.

It was not a problem installing and using the new MySQL, it did not break my
existing database (I only copied 1 DB over for testing). I did have to force the
installation of the newer RPMs since the old ones were already there. You can do
that like this:

> rpm -ihv --force MYSQL....blah...blah.....

It worked for me...can't say for certain that this won't break your box, and like
everyone else says, I cannot be held accountable if it does break your box...but if
it works feel free to send accolades, money, umm...you know...
