If your box is the Primary DNS and you only have 1 box, it doesn't matter how many secondary's
you have on as many networks as you want, if the Primary goes down, none of your sites will be
available.
While not the preferred method, for those that have a single RAQ[1,2,3,etc] it's not going to
make a difference if both Pri and Sec on that box. If the box goes down, doesn't matter how
many secondarys, tertiarys, etc.
I don't have time to sit around reading up on RFCs, altho I prolly should, but it prolly
recommends, advises, whatever, that no DNS should be on the machine with your sites. I would
guess to be completely correct you need a minimum of 3 boxes, 1 for Pro, 1 for Sec, and 1 for
your sites. But the reason most of us are here is because these boxes Cobalt sells are a
bargain we were looking for and we don't have the $$ for a bunch of hardware. Right or wrong, I
would guess thats the reason a large percentage of us are here. Especially based on the topic
of a good portion of the posts...
For anyone that feels the need to send the wry-grin-I'll-take-your-customers-me-and-Al-Gore-
invented-the-Internet-together-between-me-being-a-western-hemisphere-distributor-
of-some, keep the technical knowledge coming, but spare us the condensending attitude about
non-technical issues.
