Using Styled Text and Attachments (was Re: [cobalt-users] Web Forwarding - The next chapter!)

This is the canned message I send to my list members :)

MS Outlook, MS Exchange and Netscape Mail default settings play havoc on
the program that runs the lists. When AOL'ers read these posts using
Outlooks default settings, they actually see all the underlying coding to
make the text bold or colored what ever. Even if you don't fancy the text,
there is the coding, visible to all, making reading the post difficult, if
not impossible.. I worked with several list members to figure out how to
correct the problem..

Thanks..
Debbie

MS Outlook
----------------
Open Outlook, click Tools, then Options. Click the TAB that says Reading.
The first drop down box is called "When replying to a message", mine says
"Include and indent original message", but the other choices include one
that will attach the original message.. Lets try changing yours to simply
"Include original message"

On the SEND tab, Mail Sending Format should be check as PLAIN TEXT
On the Compose Tab Business Cards AND Stationary should NOT be checked.

MS Outlook Express
---------------------------
Click Tools then at the end of the list choose "options"
Then in options choose "Send"
Outlook Express has automatically put things in HTML so check the box
under the HTML which is titled "plain text"

Using MS Exchange
--------------------------
In the e-mail box, double click the e-mail address
Clear the check box (no check) that says:
ALWAYS SEND TO THIS RECIPIENT IN RICH-TEXT FORMAT

You can also set this option in the Personal address book, same deal as
above, double click the name, and uncheck that box.

Using Netscape Communicator 4.03 (mail program portion of Netscape)
------------------------------------------------
Under EDIT go to PREFERENCES
Select MAIL & GROUPS
Select MESSAGES
Look at MESSAGE PROPERTIES
Uncheck "By default, send messages as HTML"

Also, in the Identity section of the same preferences window, all the way
down on the bottom, please UNCHECK the box that says :Always attach Address
Book Card to messages. Thus address book card is unusable and unreadable
by every other email program and many get upset when there are attachments
to their email (AOL people are especially leery of attachments)

Thanks for your cooperation :)
