Re: [cobalt-users] cobalt cube

Let's be reasonable, Pete.

Are you getting mail via smtp? Or by picking it up from a pop3 account or accounts somewhere?

There's NO such thing as not being able to properly distribute list mail if you're getting mail via smtp. If someone told you that they don't know anything about how email works (here I am being pompous again <wry grin>).

But if you're getting email from one or more pop3 accounts then there's NO WAY the Qube, sendmail (the MTA the Qube uses), OR ANY OTHER EMAIL SERVER, FOR ANY OPERATING SYSTEM AT ALL can get the envelope information from a pop3 account UNLESS the SERVER at the location running your pop3 box or boxes is saving it in headers, since THE ENVELOPE is stripped as part of Internet email protocols.

Yes, I know. I'm sounding pompous. I'm the Western-hemisphere distributor of Mailtraq <www.mailtraqna.com>, a Windows-based mail-server originally designed to work with dialup connections, so I'm familiar with ALL the problems and issues surrounding picking up email for multiple users from a single pop3 account. And I also do email solutions outsourcing using a mix of linux, unix, and NT platforms.

It's NOT a Cobalt issue. It's the way the Internet was designed. Care to start over <wry grin>?

Talk to me if you wish. If you MUST get your email from pop3 boxes, I probably have a solution. But even better, I may have a solution for you to get your email via smtp even if you've got a dialup account; I already do it for some of our Mailtraq clients.

If you're already receiving email via smtp, I can consult with you and your upstream and help you get it done right, or give you other email solutions.

If you have not bought the Qube yet I would look elsewhere as it really
does not do the job properly and support is crap. I use a Qube for this
purpose here plus giving LAN users web access. It only partly works. I
have about 40 users. The only problem and its a major one is that e-mail
which is originally sent via a mailing list such as this cobalt user
list ends up in the admin account not the user its intended for. I have
been trying to get my supplier and cobalt support (both Europe and US]
to sort it out but the only response I have had after over 6 months is
that it's a known problem (that took 4 months to get) and its being
worked on by Cobalt.
