Re: [cobalt-users] RealMedia Server

Ervic,

I installed the Real Server Basic v6.x on a RedHat system about 3 months
ago and it was a major pain. Basically one of Real Networks two Linux
archives was bad. They might have fixed it with v7.x by now. It's a major
improvement over their older software, but they have been forever consistent
that their software is flawless. So far it has been running for awhile with
no major problems. Pay attention to the installation. I can't say how it
handles at high loads, the server only gets about max three connections at a
time. If yer really serious about setting up a Real Server I'd highly
suggest getting the support contracts. The server itself is pretty decent
with a web based management system and does pretty good at what it's
supposed to do. One thing I have also noticed that a lot of major
audio/visual content sites have dropped Real Media support this past year
which makes me wonder.
