Re: [cobalt-users] Mail Question

Yeah, I *have* to have it read paul@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx to change some of my

You really don't, though instructions for doing so are included at the bottom of this post. What kind of an email client do you use for your Progidy account? Can you change the "From:" address in that client? If so, just change it so your outgoing email reads "From: paul@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx". Network Solutions doesn't seem to care about envelope information, just headers, over which MOST email clients give you full control. If you can do this, then you can send the changes from your Prodigy account (Prodigy may block such outgoing email, though).

You might also try changing your personal handle (for example, mine is JLxxxx). I was recently able to change one from a non-approved address. You may have to fax Network Solutions some information to make the change but it shouldn't take longer than a few days.

To keep this from happening in the future, you should change your Network Solutions authentication method from "Mail-from" to "Password Authentication".

You probably shouldn't even use Network Solutions in the future. We offer a solution that uses humans as necessary as intermediaries, and could have fixed this for you in minutes for domains registered through us. We charge us$60 for an initial two-year registration, lower for ISPs and other bulk registration entities.

Otherwise, i wouldn't care...

You can change the domain that sendmail "masquerades" under by using the "masquerade" feature.

Here's the relevant part of the /etc/sendmail.cf file (I just copied it off my RaQ2):

# class E: names that should be exposed as from this host, even if we masquerade
 # class L: names that should be delivered locally, even if we have a relay
 # class M: domains that should be converted to $M
 #CL root
 CE root

 # who I masquerade as (null for no masquerading) (see also $=M)

Please note that I've never seen any reason to use these features, so I cannot give you any further help on them. I strongly sugest buying a copy of the O'Reilly book, "sendmail", by Costales and Allman. Since Eric Allman is one of the authors, and is the chief architect of sendmail (the program), this book will be very helpful. Look up "masquerade" in the index.

That said, I'd imagine you need to add a line as follows (no indent, of course)

 CL paul

and another line as follows:

 DM fragrantvagrant.com

I appreciate your help!

I hope this helps a bit. I strongly recommend the book.
