[cobalt-users] Ice cast on a RaQ2

Help!

I've installed Icecast 1.3.0p2 on a RaQ2. While playing with it on the
first day, the RaQ crashed. Almost everything I did immediately
segfaulted untill all of my telnet and ssh seesions died. All TCP
services refused connections except HTTP which accepted the connection
but did no processing. ICMP packets seemed OK.

After this, I decided to nt run the server as root so I created a user
for it to run as. The machine didn't crash again but the icecast service
sometimes locked up or exhibited strange behaviour. That was months ago.
As a work-around, I have implemented a web interface for our user to
retart the service himself. Apache is configured with suexec running
correctly (so the startup/shutdown script runs as the icecast user).
Over the next 24 hours, the machine has locked up in a similar way to
before three times!

I have now completely disabled icecast on the host but I would like to
know if anyone else has experience of this? Could it be something to do
with the 'very obscure leak in the networking code'
(http://www.kernelnotes.org/kpatch20.html) fixed in kernel 2.0.36? I
hope it isn't 'cos I don't want to install a new kernel onto the box.

Can anyone shed any light on this??

	Dave
