SNMP = Simple Network Management Protocol
Great if you have monitoring software that can actively go out and monitor
SNMP enabled machines on your network. All HP business workstations, most
routers, managed hubs & switches, and pretty much all servers have these
features. Applications like HP's TopTools as well as several free
applications (check Freshmeat.net) let you monitor devices like this.
