Hello Bert,

We produce a line of CGI scripts that we have developed in the RaQ1/2/3
environment, one of which is MailNow, a web-based email product.

It uses the catchall POP account that you can setup on any domain using the
@www.mydomain.com alias. You can then offer an unlimited number of email
accounts in the form of anyname@xxxxxxxxxxxx for purely web-based email
accounts. You can also offer more than one domain from a single installation
(our demonstration shows us offering three domains) as you like - we have
one customer using 600 domains from a single installation!

The product has many scalable features to allow you to tune it to your
server specificatation - memory usually being the restricting factor.

Pros: If you have good domain names it gives you excellent exposure and an
easy way to advertise through banner ads and putting text lines at the
bottom of your email. It provides that essential insentive to visitors to
keep coming back to your site (to retrieve and send email).

Cons: Inevitably CGI scripts can affect the performance of your server, but
if well spec'd it needn't. We have several Cobalt RaQx customers running the
product as well as other running it on various *NIX and WindowsNT servers.
There is always the problem of abuse of the service, but there are SPAM
filtering measures and Terms and Conditions that must be agreed to during
the signup process.
