They're both mailbox protocols. IMAP allows you to create and access mail
folders in the /home/site/siteN/user/username directory. It keeps copies of
the email locally and on the server, which can cause your server email
storage to grow significantly. I use procmail to filter emails into the
right file so they appear as folders in pine or my wondows email program
(outlook express). I believe all you need to do to have a IMAP account is
to create the files manually or through your mail client program.
