Not for sendmail.

It works fine for sendmail. It doesn't work for majordomo at all. majordomo is simply a script. It's sendmail commands that invoke the majordomo script(s) when required to process mailing lists.

What is your alias line? Is it something like:

  alias: :include:/home/sites/siteX/mail_lists/test.list

If so, then the "include" itself is working; see your own post:

   550 :include:/home/sites/siteX/mail_lists/test.list... Cannot
   open /home/sites/siteX/mail_lists/test.list: Group writable directory
   554 <testmail@xxxxxxxxxx>... aliasing/forwarding loop broken

It's showing you that the alias is working but that directory /home/sites/siteX/mail_lists/ is a group-writable directory. What's the permissions? It should be -rwxr-xr-x. If it's not, fix it so it is.

This all happens regardless of permissions or ownerships or what directory.

Can you show us that?

Alternatively I'd be happy to log into your box if you'd like. Create an unprivilged account for me with a password, call me or email me with the login information, I'll telnet in and look at it. Be sure the account is unprivileged; I don't want to do any damage even accidentally. If you call and reach me in, I'll do it while we're on the phone together.
