[cobalt-users] MYSQL problems

MySQL will run if I start it from the command line with /usr/sbin/mysqld
-Sg. However, it won't run with only /usr/sbin/mysqld.
If I shut down the mysql server after running it with /usr/sbin/mysqld -Sg
and try to restart it using /usr/sbin/mysqld it 'says' it is 'ready for
connections', but it isn't.....I can't access it.
Any ideas what would cause this? Is it something simple that I am missing?
