ah will need to refresh FTP daemon. Sorry I seem to have a knack for leaving
out vital info!
killall -HUP inetd
or you could do it the longer way of:
/etc/rc.d/init.d/inetd stop
/etc/rc.d/init.d/inetd start
Incidently to anyone interested the complete ProFTPd server configuration
reference files can be found at http://www.proftpd.org/ although their own
site is slightly out of date as it says latest version is pre8, but pre9
actually came out about 2 months back from their official download site of
ftp.tos.net (or ftp.tos.org - I forget which)

Well if you want you CAN login as root via FTP. Edit /etc/proftpd.conf and
in one of the line right at the top add:
Rootlogin on
Obviously there are security concerns here, but since the administrator
password is the same and you can FTP in on that (although can't do
anything dangerous but you CAN telnet in....)
