Re: [cobalt-users] smtp not working properly.

Ahoy

It means that the email client must check for mail before it sends mail.
When it checks for email, the client has to present its password to verify
that you are authorized to use this email server.

The purpose is to authenticate the sender, by identifying him as an
authorized receiver, so that Joe Spammer cannot send 500,000 emails using
your server.

In Outlook Express, you can click Tools on the menu bar, then click Accounts
on the drop-down, then highlight the account, then click the Properties
button, then click the Servers tab, then check "My server requires
authentication"

For the Raq2, oddly, POP before SMTP is not included by default. You must
download it at ftp://ftp.cobaltnet.com/pub/contrib/binaries/, then install
it via the control panel.
