On a Raq we used the Linux source install.

http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/mysql/4.0.html

Just scroll to the bottom and grab the source tarball. Don't grab the binary
builds. I know many do, but there is something about doing a source install
that makes it feel Matrix like :)) Sorry been watching the trilogy lately...
