I was looking at that "how-to" the other day and noticed that the 
instructions upgrade PHP for the user-space Web server and maintain 
the existing PHP module for the admserv.

However, there are no notes as to *why* one needs to keep using the 
existing PHP module on admserv.

Can anyone explain?
