Subject: [cobalt-developers] RE: Cobalt Packages

I am new to the Cobalt world, as I just acquired an XTR. I love the
entire concept of the Cobalt, and the appliance world, but I have some
issues with Sun's lack of support for these "EOL" machines.

Q. Are there any unofficial Cobalt package sites which have more current
Bluelinq package repositories than the official Cobalt one?

Q. How does a developer create a Cobalt package? What special steps are
required to compile something like Apache or MySQL so they are
compatible with Cobalt's web interface?

Q. Is there anyway to upgrade the Kernel on XTR machines? Can a newer
Cobalt OS be used? Can a custom Cobalt-compatible kernel be compiled?

Q. Is there any way to do this without touching the ROM? How does the
ROM kernel image interact with the kernel image on the disk? Why have a
ROM kernel image?

Thanks in advance for the time,
