Link #1 are Steve Bassi's notes. You must notice that the version mentioned
on the notes is now older and the download link must be changed to:
http://spamassassin.taint.org/released/ancient/Mail-SpamAssassin-2.31.tar.gz

On my first attempt to install it I get the same errors described on Link #2
and I used Link #3 to solve the problems.
