For activate mysql you should do these 2 operations:
1:
ln -s /var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock /tmp/mysql.sock
After you need to activate mysql at startup:
Chkconfig --level 3 mysql on
That's all and your message shoud go!!!

mysql is not started by default on the raq550 after the lastes patches, see:
