Sendmail is being restarted to ensure the config files are being 
re-read properly.

Active Monitor does run every 15 minutes and checks that it can 
connect to each service which is supposed to be running.

What do you see when you do a "tail -f /var/log/maillog" in a root 
shell session?

You're making all your manual changes at the end of the file, correct?

"hash" is the correct file type, not dbm or btree.

Also, you have the command "backwards" -- your command is trying to 
build a new access.db file from the old (binary) access.db file, not 
from the "raw" text file. You can just leave off the .db to make sure 
you don't mess it up:

cd /etc/mail; makemap hash access < access

will list out the contents of the file.

makemap hash virtusertable < virtusertable

You can put in the "-v" switch to see what it's doing too:

makemap -v hash access < access
makemap -v hash virtusertable < virtusertable
