[cobalt-developers] jdk 1.4 on raq550

I was quite surprised today after moving my application from a raq4 with manual install of jdk1.4 and tomcat to a raq550 and finding that it is only using jdk 1.3.  Anyone know why for a new system like the 550, Sun would choose to preinstall 1.3?  

And is there any way to upgrade this without destroying everything?
