Yes, do not use it.

Good, as long as you downloaded a tarball or rpm you can usually assume
they will have the correct end of line format. I have heard of others
running into this, but have not had any problems with it myself.

Yes, but you also need to set and env var. Covered in my mini how to.

Ex.
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/jre/lib/i386

But there are many more env vars to be set.

I highly doubt it's a glibc error, but it could be.
