Yes, you can. The config.inc file is very straight forward and is well
commented. Just put in the domain you are running it from, the mysql-user
(do not use root...) and password and put in the database you want to
connect to. At minimum, use an .htaccess file to protect the
phpmyadmin-directory.

To install phpMyAdmin can i just do the following?
1. download the newest file from http://www.phpmyadmin.net/
2. untar and put in www.domain.com/phpadmin/ [knowing it will only work
under this one domain only]
3. change the config.inc.php [does anyone have one of these they can share
with the rest of us if it needs major changes?]
