Hi Josh,
The software on your Raq isn't covered by a warranty, so don't worry
about that. I've had great success using PostgreSQL on my Raq. I never
could figure out why someone would want to run two database servers on
the same machine.
The first thing I did though was upgrade it to a newer version. Before
you do this, make sure to backup the entire "cobalt" database. I made
this boo-boo my first time.
Then find RPMs for PostgreSQL targeted for RedHat 6.x. This should
install without any problem.
Some hints: the password for the admin user (or is it the postgres
user?) is in a file called /etc/cobalt/.meta.id that is readable only by
root.
When you install postgresql versions with a greater major version
number, you completely loose your existing data. Ie. going from
cobalt's 7.0 to 7.1 or 7.2. This is why I suggested backing up.
Don't use the admin or postgres users, also don't use the cobalt
database.
I think that the existing config on the cobalts is for a very light use
application, so you'll have to beef up the config.
Be careful, if you mess up, you may have to do an OS restore.
Hope this helps,
