Thanks Peter,

I was wondering if Cobalt was linux or unix based. The two seam
similar. I'm new to both computers and programming. (Nov1999)
so I'll likely come up with stupid questions. Is linux and unix very
different?

One thing that took "forever" to learn was never use a ($) "dollar
sign" in the html of cgi generated pages. And to use /@ in email
addresses. Took weeks to edit the html on my cgi operated pages
because of this till the tech department of my hosting company
Skynetweb figured it out.

I'm going to do a site on the common do's and don't of web development
when I've learned and collected enough of these simple stumbling blocks
that can mess up the beginner.

I did a patch update the other day. RaQ4-All-Security-2.0.1-15417.pkg
from http://sunsolve.sun.com/patches/cobalt/raq4.eng.html totally
crashed my server. The server wouldn't reboot, site was down 8 hours
why support took the unit apart to attach a keyboard. (no outside jack)
This patch conflicted with Chili software apparently...so they said. I
keep telnet & ftp off for security, so that made it difficult.

The fact that there in much to know in the world of programming and
web development is an understatement. But that's part of the challenge
that keeps it interesting...and frustrating. Thanks, I'll check out
