What I have done to combat this issue is write a small shell script that is
loaded by CRON nightly or weekly that will refresh there stats
automatically. I also give them the option of refreshing them while they are
viewing.
Keep in mind that awstats uses the log files to parse out information so if
your log format and or log file is not correct it will not populate.

/awstats.pl -config=www.domain.com -update -output >
/home/sites/www.domain.com/web/awstats/index.htm
