Thanks for the info. We started work today and hope to get this one up and
going soon. First things first though and thats getting the cobalt raqs to
talk to the linux server and at least attempt to pull something off of the
nfs server. Basically what we are trying to do is install and configure a
server tht looks more or less exactly like what you get when you boot the
restore cd. Then from there start working on a system to download official
cobalt pataches to the nfs server and mod the install scripts to install
them as part of a os restore.

Let me know if you have any other pointers. Or if any of you have any.

I'm a bit late in replying to this and apologies if this topic has already
been touched upon but there have been certain situations in which patches
have literally brought down a machine; either through an improper patch
implementation or a customization on the Cobalt machine which spat up when
the patch was installed. Be careful as to how and when you implement this
solution; the last thing you want to find is all of the RaQ's down due to a
bad patch.

Latency has been an issue; PKG's are still succesptible to bad binary data
being passed (I've even seen a CRC error reported). Maybe a .sh / .pl to
compare data against exsisting original donwload on main NFS?

Martin Moeller from Cobalt Aid has put together a small script which can
download and install all missing patches in the proper order for most Sun
Cobalt servers.

You can even choose to ignore specific packages for selected architectures
which you want to ignore. Furthermore you can specify extra packages from
third parties which you want to install.

The file is called Updater.tgz and it's available off Martin's website:

I usually use his script when I have to bring a freshly restored RaQ to the
most recent patchlevel.

Even if that script isn't what you're looking for, it might give you some
ideas for your own purposes.
