Yep. That was exactly my way of thinking as I bought the RaQ. But my capabalities have advanced. The GUI is fine for the 'lazy' admin, but as Cobalt is now part of SUN I notice a delay in responsiveness. The fact that it took that long to fix apache is only one indicator.

ALso the abscence of Cobalt people here and the fact that many announcements are now on the SUN web-based forums and not here anymore have caused me to rethink my possibilities.

I am no longer frightened of shell commands so I evaluated OpenBSD and was impressed. If I find a way to get it running on the RaQ I will do it. I will still have the good looking blue machine in my cabinet but I will feel more comfortable ;-)

I always installed the patches as soon as they were available. But the fact that there is still no official way of getting PHP 4.2.1 or even PHP 4.1.x from Cobalt is surely driving customers away from using webspace on RaQs. A big thankyou though to Taco Scargo and his friends that continue to help out by offering packages on pkgmaster.com.

Just for those that don't know it, Taco is a Sun employee. He makes packages for Cobalt systems though they are not officially supported by Sun. But, they are packages that a number of people have asked for and he makes them into packages in a manner that they will run on the Cobalt products without further modification.

If SUN wants to keep me from thinking of moving away they should take our concerns more serious. But that is just the opinion of a litle man that tries to keep his services up and running.
