I've got no problem with that yet, as the config file I'm writing to can
safely be owned by user httpd. If someone puts any nonsense into the file,
then the logic in the main program which uses the config file should filter
that out and use safe defaults instead.
If I ever need root access from inside the GUI then I can write a small binary
which runs SUID/GID=root and only performs a simple hardcoded task with some
checks in place which confirm that it's the GUI who's calling it and not
someone with shell access or even another PHP page than the one I intend to
use it from.
That still sounds easier than to learn how to do it the Cobalt way. ;o)

Yepp, just did that this afternoon and from there on it was smooth sailing
with the manual PKG creation. It even uninstalls fine.

Yeah, I found that by accident four or five weeks ago and it was what got me
started on PKG building for the Sausalito enabled servers. Especially the
creation of the *.po files was a mystery to me prior to finding that readme.

I just looked at your site. So you were also working on a GUI for an
anti-virus solution. Not bad. :o)
How good is the Trend Anti-Virus on the Qubes? Their licensing and pricing
practices seem to be kinda ... eqxuisite - if not expensive.
I usually use a mixture of Kaspersky, Sendmail-8.12.3 with Milter support and
Amavis-Milter on the Qube 3. Although I'm somewhat forced to build a separate
PKG with Sophos instead of Kaspersky for one of my resellers.
