[cobalt-developers] pkg's requiring reboot

Can someone please explain why pkg need to reboot the system when they
are not upgrading or modifying the kernel.

For example,

In order to update PHP on XTR's you must reboot the machine. Why?

Can't you just restart Apache, and what ever other necessary services to
achieve the same result.

If and when PKG's are being created, if the reboot after install can be
used only for things like kernel upgrades.

It really does not make sense to bring an entire sever to it's knees to
restart just to upgrade a higher level app?

That's saying that people running Cobalts do not need their machines to
be up 99% of the time.

If there is a reason for this then we will have to live with it.

Otherwise please chill out and use other things instead of reboot after
install. Like a script to restart services.

Anyone think I am crazy for thinking this way?

Anyone second my motion?
