What about it <smile>?

There have been a few attempts at bulletin boards before. I can run a
bulletin board system (on a high-powered system that wouldn't be brought
to it's knees by a lot of users, one specifically designed and installed
for rnning bulletin boards) or you can.
The problem comes in actually using it. I did a test yesterday; I tried
reading the bulletin board Sun has set up for the Sun Cobalt line. It
takes me about four times as long to read the equivalent number of
messages, with the overhead of the board vs reading a mailing list; I
bet that's why bulletin boards get significantly less traffic. And with
all the bulletin board software I've seen, you have to look at the
entire thread each time you read it; you can't just look at the specific
message.
Carrie Bartowiak eventually dropped her bulletin boards for lack of
interest.
My personal choice would be a private newsgroup (we can do that as
well); they're easy to start and keep spam-free. The problem with them
is that these days there are so many people who have no idea how to use
one <frown>.
As I've posted before on some of the cobalt lists: go for it if you'd
like.
