Take a look in the users archive for duplicate entries in your
virtusertable. I had that problem once and that seemed to play a role.
Search on the term 'makemap hash', it should get you in the right
neighborhood.

PS - Your lucky day, I found a note I saved on my computer:

keywords: virtusertable error: excessive recursion - catch all doesn't work

http://list.cobalt.com/pipermail/cobalt-users/2001-November/057341.html

makemap hash /etc/mail/virtusertable < /etc/mail/virtusertable
