/proc/mdstat showed that one drive wasn't working; I guess this thread
went further on one of the other lists, but by Friday night we'd
installed a completely new system for our client, which worked fine.
The Restore CD was newer, but wasn't as up-to-date. I just get the
restore CDs handed to me and use 'em as I get 'em; I've been depending
on them to work right.

I must admit we never looked at that, and the system's no longer online
to look at <frown>.

It turned out to have said it started raid but one drive was bad.
Unfortunately I'd never looked at that in the early stages.
What I still don't understand is why it showed us a working Raid with a
non-working drive from the command line (/proc/mdstat) but didn't show
us a raid section in the active monitor in the gui.
But the replacement machine seems to be doing fine <smile>.
Thanks for your help.
