You don't need GD 2.0.1 in order to install PHP.  In order to avoid the
conflict, you can install GD from the source tarball to a non-standard
location and set the GD directory using --with-gd=/path_to/gd in the PHP
./configure step.  I've installed GD 1.8.4 from source with no problems on a
RaQ3.  I don't think I've installed 2.0.1 on a RaQ3, but give it a try.
