I always felt it was best to setup DNS entries like this:
domain.com -> A record
mail.domain.com -> A record
www.domain.com -> CNAME record
ftp.domain.com -> CNAME record
This way some mail servers won't do a reverse lookup and reject
senders because of non-A record DNS entries.
