I can't get lasman.name, but I CAN get jeff.lasman.name. If that's true, then I could host jeff.lasman.name, but obviously it depends on whether or not they allow me to have my own nameservers, etc. The reason I'm not sure is the adverts and stories I read that tell me I can get a website at "jeff.lasman.com" and an email address jeff@xxxxxxxxxxx So I wonder if I can have control over mail at jeff.lasman.com. It all depends on what they allow you to do with DNS.
I found a bunch of stuff on the registration page at bulkregister - I copied in several sections, so if you're interested in .name you should go down what I found:

You do not need to submit IP addresses at this time. Name servers should NOT be created from .name domain names, as there is no guarantee that the application will succeed. .Name name servers may only be created after the domain name is successfully registered.
