Yes, it is indeed clear that the Qube2 is MIPS(el). Debian maintains a mipsel distribution for these kind of machines. I have been able to load a newer kernel (2.4.5) without a problem from the bootloader. My problem seems to be that command line kernel parameters are not passed correctly (overruled by firmware?) to the kernel.
