A little while back I was inqiring into grouping two ethernet interfaces
together on a RaQ4r using Intel's IANS, and e100. Due to our migrating
to a XTR, and XTR not using Intel nics, we decided against IANS.
We were recommended to look into ethernet channel bonding, but from most
documentation it seems that feature is something only available to 2.4
kernels, unless you want to add it to an older kernel.
Along our ways we came accross a program called ifenslave which you
compile from the source code, and makes a copy of one interface to another.
Here's a link
http://www.beowulf.org/software/bonding.html
I have compiled and run the program. It gives me errors, but after
running ifconfig, it seems to have done the job? I think.
Then second interface shows up using ifconfig. It has the same hardware
address as the primary interface, but a different irq, which I assume is
OK. It seems to be working, not sure if it's actually made a difference
or not, of if it is even working.
Any one else have any input on this subject? When I have time, I will
look into testing it out with several different loads.
