Cntrl-S outisde of an application which specifies it as a command, often
attempts to 'suspend' your current shell. This doesn't work on all OSes --
as you have noticed. I can reproduce the same problem on all of my RH7.x
boxes using not only Putty but TeraTerm and even from a simple telnet out a
dos shell to the RH7.x machine. On Solaris6, 7, and 8 you can reactivate
the session easily enough, but RH7.x doesn't seem to like it -- I can't
speak for any pre-7.x RH releases.
