The new.net domains will never be successful if browsers need plugins to
make them work. You can (if you want) make some changes to one of your
DNS files to get them to work, but that's only for people using your DNS
server, not for users browsing the net. However it's important to note
that new.net domains are not universally accepted top-level domains,
that new.net is operating outside of ICANN, and that their domains are
not conducive to a concept of "one internet". When and if ICANN
authorizes the .shop top-level-domain, for example, either the ICANN
.shop domains or the new.net .shop domains will cease to work.
If you're supporting new.net domains, then you're contributing to a
fractionalized Internet in which everyone cannot reach everyone else.
While I like the concept, I think we (all of us using the Internet
professionally) need to cooperate, and that means to accept the
authority of ICANN.
We will host .shop domains, but we won't ever guarantee anyone can reach
them, even if we host the DNS, because we have no control over whether
or not any other DNS supports them.
