I tripped over this script the other day on my RaQ3 -- /usr/local/sbin/cobalt_gestalt . Look for the line that begins MODEL. You need to be root to run it.

There's a Tech Note in http://developer.cobalt.com/ that has some information on the gestalt function that may be useful.
