We use rsync to backup the contents of the whole server to an extra
drive in the XtR every hour or so (the extra drive is of course not
included in the RAID).

We then use rsync once a day to backup that extra harddrive to an
external server. This way we minimize the load-impact on the server.

Remember that you need extra procedures set up for taking backups of
MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc. We use mysqlhotcopy to take backups of MySQL, as
that is a lot faster and takes up less space than using mysqldump.
